20 Apr How I Voted On School Lunch Last Session
During the 2023 legislative session, two bills were introduced with regard to the school lunch program in North Dakota. SB2284 provided for free lunch in the public schools for those families who qualified at 200% of the federal poverty level at a cost to the taxpayers of $6 million. I voted YES and the bill was signed into law by the Governor on May 18. HB1491 was a bill that was introduced in the House and provided for free lunch for all public school children, regardless of need, at a cost of $89.5 million. That bill was amended to mirror the language that passed in SB2284, however if the original language would have been presented to the full House, my vote would have been NO
